READING
Instruction will be provided as a supplement to the regular instruction received in school. The focus will be based on Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Comprehension, Vocabulary and Fluency. Each student will be assessed according to grade level benchmarks.
MATH
Supplemental instruction will include the foundational basics of number sense, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Extended operations will be included where applicable. Each student will be assessed according to grade level benchmarks.
WRITING
Intervention in this area will include development in expository and narrative writing as a foundation. Other forms of writing may be introduced as needed. The major goal will be to develop focus with the use of descriptive vocabulary while applying the basic mechanics of good writing.
DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION
Instruction in this program will focus on the
student’s individual needs in reading, math and writing. Every effort will
be made to diagnose academic problems, identify strengths and weaknesses
while providing interventions for areas of extreme concern.
STRATEGIC THINKING
Instruction in reading will be based on a strategic approach where students will learn the strategies needed to be a good reader and when/how those strategies should be applied to demonstrate reading comprehension. The five major components of reading development will be the foundation of reading development.
CRITICAL THINKING
Instruction will include development of critical thinking skills which are required for both reading and math. Students need to understand the importance of thinking through their problems and solving them. Many tasks depend on the student’s ability to think critically to achieve success.
